“Raise the Tent” for the Freshman Pinning Ceremony

During Medical Alumni Weekend, the school invites the first-year students and their families to a special ceremony during which each student is called up to the stage individually and is “pinned” by an upper classman, a faculty member, or an alumnus.

Approximately a month after the Pinning Ceremony, the fourth-year students and their families celebrate Match Day. Match Day is the national rite of passage to residency in which fourth-year medical students find out where they will continue the next three to seven years of their medical training under the eyes of seasoned physicians. Match Day is a very exciting and memorable occasion for each year’s graduating class.

Because the Pinning Ceremony and Match Day are each attended by over 1,200 people, these events have traditionally been held under a tent on the Schoninger Research Quadrangle. The tent is essential, because Miami weather is predictably unpredictable. Our tent vendor has graciously agreed to leave the tent in place from the Pinning Ceremony through Match Day, and will only charge one rental fee. We just need to provide the funds to cover the rental fee.

Any amount you can contribute to help “Raise the Tent” will be very much appreciated. We do not want to limit the number of guests per student for either event, so please support us at the highest level you can. Only with your assistance can we “pay the rent and raise the tent,” and not be left out in the cold (or in our case, rain or heat!).

Medical Parents Association Endowed Scholarship

An endowed scholarship provides the medical school with a permanent asset from which students can receive scholarships. It is truly a gift that keeps on giving. The entire amount of your gift is invested, rather than spent outright. Each year, only a portion of the income earned is distributed as scholarships, while the remainder is reinvested into the principal. Always equated with excellence and long-term strength, endowments are absolutely essential for the healthy future of the medical school and its continued development of diverse, highly skilled and compassionate doctors.Your gift to the Medical Parents Association Endowed Scholarship Fund will touch the lives of others, often in profound and unexpected ways. Please help us lessen the incredible financial hardship today’s students will face as they enter their promising medical careers
